PTA Events & Programs

The SLES PTA plans several events and programs throughout the year to enrich the experience of our students, staff and our community!

We support our students through...

1. ASAP After school program:  A PTA volunteer-run program which offers after-school enrichment classes in three separate 6-week sessions each school year. The sessions are offered in Fall, Winter and Spring.

2. A Back to School Picnic:  A fun social evening held soon after the beginning of the school year. All Seldens families are welcome to join. The PTA adds life to the party by arranging for a DJ and dessert. This is a casual evening to get to know your school staff and parents of other children in your child's class.

3. Fifth Grade Promotion: Various fundraising events and activities are planned through the year to support the end of year 5th grade celebration. 

4. Math Olympiad: An ASAP (after school activities program) for students in grade 4-5 where students are invited to participate in 5 monthly individual contests to challenge their mathematical problem-solving. 

5. Odyssey Of The Mind: Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college.

6.  Reflections Art Program: The PTA Reflections Program is designed to enhance a quality arts education by providing an opportunity for students to explore their artistic talents and receive positive recognition for their efforts.

7. School Supply Kits:  The PTA works with School Tool Box to provide a hassle free parents to order school supplies that are delivered to the child's classroom by the Open House each school year.

8. Skate Night:  The PTA plans a fun night of skating each year at the Ashburn Ice Rink.

9. Spooky Bingo: The PTA hosts a Halloween-themed fun-filled evening featuring bingo games, prizes and costumes.

We support our staff through...

1. Staff Appreciation:  The PTA organizes activities to celebrate the hard work of all the school staff for Teacher Appreciation Week (May each year) and other celebrated special days.

2. Room Parents: Our Room Parent Coordinator supports all our room parent who facilitate communication between parents and the teacher, school administration and/or PTA and supports the teacher with class parties and other needs. 

3. Teacher & Parent Support: TAPS is an initiative to encourage SLES teachers to provide “Hands-On” curriculum in the classroom by providing funding and volunteers to support them.

4. Wonderful Wednesdays: Wonderful Wednesdays are held once a month. It is a great opportunity to show our appreciation for our teachers by providing lunch for them with a variety of dishes and desserts.

We support our school through...

1. School Gifts:  The PTA has worked with artists to create murals at school, provides landscaping services and playground equipment. 

2. School Sign:  The school sign in front of the school is regularly updated with dates and events on the school and the PTA's calendars. 

3. WATCH D.O.G.S: WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads Of Great Students) is an innovative father involvement, educational initiative of the National Center for Fathering. 

4. Welcoming Committee: The Welcoming Committee ensures that families new to Seldens have all the resources and information needed to make the transition to SLES easy, informative and fun! The unknowns for a new family may range from how to buy Spirit Wear, School events or Volunteering. We are here to help you!
